The Northern Beaches Council Youth Wellbeing Hub Grant is for organisations wanting to provide innovative youth services in the northern part of the peninsula. Applications were sought from organisations who could establish a space for youth outreach services to provide holistic support and counselling services for all young people (not just those people diagnosed with an illness) - currently no such services in the northern part of the LGA and existing school counselling services are heavily booked.

The Youth Wellbeing Hub will meet an urgent need to help young people through a partnership approach with professional service providers. It is the intention to secure long-term services beyond the term of this grant. This project was initiated by an Administrator’s Minute at the Northern Beaches Council meeting on 27 June 2017, where funding was announced for new programs that support arts and culture, youth, environmental sustainability and community events on the Northern Beaches through the Merger Savings Fund.

Young people are experiencing increasingly high level of stress and pressure. Recent research from Mission Australia (2016) shows that one in four young people are living with a mental disorder. Around one in five respondents (approximately 20,000) in the 2016 survey were either ‘extremely concerned’ or ‘very concerned” about depression and family conflict. More than 44% reported high-stress levels.
