Bligh Park Bushcare Group has been working on site for over 20 years, when a small group of residents contacted the Council to set up a Bushcare group. It is a compact bushland reserve surrounded by residential properties, with the site increasingly accessed by locals as a play area and walking track.

The site contains a beautiful canopy typical of the area including Angophora costata, Corymbia gummifera, Eucalyptus piperita and Eucalyptus sieberi. Cockatoos, Bush Turkeys and native fauna such as possums, bandicoots and lizards frequent the reserve, due to its close proximity to national parks and bushland areas.

The group has worked hard over the years to control weeds and garden escapees on site including Tradescantia, Ehrharta, Acetosa and other weedy grasses. The team is now working to maintain the site and enhance the biodiversity of the reserve through infill planting to improve the canopy and mid storey.

Francis Boutry, who has been a long standing and dedicated volunteer at the site has said that he is motivated to work so hard “as I love doing this for the bush, and the pleasure of seeing the balance back in nature and the resilience restored as time goes on”.
