The group has been carrying out some incredible work (pre-lockdown) at this beautiful Avalon headland.

They have been meeting since about 2004, after the Pittwater Natural Heritage Association received a Coastcare grant from the Greater Sydney Local Land Services to assist with weed control. The area was covered with dense weeds including Lantana and Asparagus. Contractors cleared and burnt the weeds, resulting in significant regeneration.

In spite of seeing great results from their efforts, there have been many challenges, including dumped building materials and weeds, overgrown vines and the constraints of working to a limited schedule. Sadly weed growth has increased over the last two years, made worse by wet weekends and COVID-19 restrictions.

To help the group, contractors are now working to control weeds on the site, with results already visible. Marita Macrae, a long standing and dedicated volunteer at the site said:

“It is so encouraging to see progress, and know we are not alone. You can see the difference, though there is still a long way to go!”
