Anzac Avenue Bushcare Group has been working on site for about 26 years, when a small group of residents contacted the Council to set up a Bushcare group.

For the last 16 years volunteers have been working alongside contractors to turn what was once a weedy creek slope into an area that requires regular maintenance.

The site is located at the bottom of a creek line corridor which runs from Collaroy Plateau to Pittwater Road. The small creek that runs through the site transitions through both Bangalay Slope Forest and Swamp Mahogany Forest, attracting wildlife but also providing a source for weeds.

The group has worked hard to control weeds (particularly Morning Glory, Camphor Laurel, Senna, Lantana and Tradescantia) and restore the native plants on this valuable site. The team is now focusing on maintaining the site to provide enhanced habitat for native fauna and birds including the resident Brush Turkeys, Wood Ducks, Black Cockatoos and a Powerful Owl.

Julie Whitfield, who has been a long standing and dedicated volunteer at the site has said that she was is motivated to volunteer as:

the resilience of the bush is a standout; we have seen so many changes in the canopy and ground cover as plants adapt to soil and sunlight.
