Bronte Cormican-Jones is an emerging Sydney-based artist and writer, expanding the field of spatial practice through her use of sculptural and architectural installations. Interested in architectural interventions into habitual ways of seeing, Cormican-Jones creates body-scale installations. In this exhibition, glass and mirror assemblages, freestanding sculptures, photography and outdoor sculpture converge to create an immersive environment.

Passing Through draws upon Cormican-Jones’ time spent at Eramboo, a period of noticing, being present and moving through. She invites her audiences to experience her exhibition with a similar conscious presence, as they traverse the spaces between her sculptures and visually occupy the opening of a reflective surface.

In creating the work, Cormican-Jones’ process involved photographing the bushland surrounds through panes of mirror and glass objects blown at the JamFactory during her residency in early 2023. The exhibition features freestanding sculptural works created during Cormican-Jones' residency at Canberra Glassworks. Mirrored and glass sculptures create passages, throughlines and openings, calling the landscape inside the gallery space.

Cormican-Jones invites a conversation between the architectures of the trees and surrounding bushland, and the space within the gallery through the layering of images and reflective materials. Her periscopic structures become architectural rooms, encouraging the audience to navigate the space with a conscious movement and pause for moments of stillness.
