Meals on Wheels
Council provides a Meals on Wheels service and operates three Community Restaurants. The Service delivers meals to people who live in the Manly, Balgowlah, North Manly and Freshwater areas. Meals on Wheels is all about people being able to continue to live comfortably in their own home. Those eligible are the frail/aged, have a disability, or care for someone who is frail/aged or has a disability.
Home Library Services
For those unable to visit the library because of age, disability or are a carer, the Home Library Service maintains a vital connection with all that the library offers.
Northern Beaches Council will maintain existing rebates on rates and charges for eligible pensioners in accordance with the policies of the former Councils.
Research shows older road users are most likely to suffer serious injuries from car crashes, particularly pedestrian crashes. Free Senior Road Safety Workshops are offered throughout the year.
Northern Beaches Seniors Directory
Our Seniors Directory 2018 - 2020 provides useful information about local services, activities and housing available for our older residents. It includes details on support groups, health services, advocacy, complaints, financial and legal information, support services and housing. The directory is available in hard copy from any of our customer service centres, libraries and community centres. My Aged Care
The My Aged Care website has been established by the Australian Government to help you navigate the aged care system. My Aged Care is part of the Australian Government’s changes to the aged care system which have been designed to give people more choice, more control and easier access to a full range of aged care services. Dementia Australia is a peak body advocating for the needs of people living with all types of dementia, and for their families and carers, and provide support services, education and information. Contact the National Dementia Helpline on 1800 100 500.
Carers NSW is the peak non-government organisation for carers in NSW and a member of the National Network of Carers Associations. Carers NSW works with all carers regardless of their age, location, life-stage or circumstances. This includes those caring for individuals with support needs relating to ageing, disability, health and mental illness.
Council on the Ageing NSW (COTA)
Council on the Ageing NSW (COTA NSW) is the peak organisation for people over 50 in our state. It's an independent, consumer-based non-government organisation. COTA NSW work with politicians, policy makers, and service providers as well as media representatives to make sure your views are heard and your needs are met.
Elder Abuse Helpline
NSW Elder Abuse Helpline offers a free service that provides information, support and referrals relating to the abuse of older people living in the community across NSW. They place the safety of the older person first. Their service is confidential and callers remain anonymous. NSW Elder Abuse Helpline encourages individuals, concerned friends, family members, neighbours and support workers to call 1800 628 221 if they suspect elder abuse is occurring.
NSW Fair Trading
NSW Fair Trading safeguards the rights of all consumers and advises business and traders on fair and ethical practice. They provide services directly to individuals and businesses to create a fair, safe and equitable marketplace. NSW Fair Trading investigate unfair practices and ensure that the products sold in NSW are safe and meet their regulations and safety standards.
