There are a number of designated beach and reserve carparks throughout the Northern Beaches where payment for parking applies at various times between the hours of 6am and 9pm every day.

All vehicles parking at a Northern Beaches Council beach and reserve carpark are required to pay for parking or display a valid (permitted sites only). This also applies to motor bikes and permits should be displayed in a special holder secured to the vehicle which is the responsibility of the rider.

Please always check signage for the time restrictions and conditions of the carpark, as well as the information displayed on the parking machines.

We offer a range of parking payment options to make parking easier and reduce congestion.

Parking can be paid digitally using the EasyPark or NSW Government Park’nPay apps, or EasyPark’s virtual meters. Pay-by-plate parking machines are also available.

Note: parking fees do not apply if you display a valid Northern Beaches Beach Parking Permit in eligible locations.

App-based parking

You can pay for parking using your smartphone with either of the following apps:

  • EasyPark (the newest parking app available in the Northern Beaches)
  • Park’nPay

There is no additional service fee for using a parking app. Neither app require you to ‘top up’ your account or maintain a wallet to pay for parking. Simply pay for the time parked.

How it works

App benefits

  • Receive a notification on your phone when your parking is about to expire to help avoid a fine
  • Use a ticketless, environmently-friendly way to pay for your parking, with your number plate acting as your ticket instead of a paper ticket.
  • Extend parking if the time restriction allows
  • Pay using credit card, Apply Pay or Google Pay
  • Keep track of your parking history and receipts

Virtual parking meters

Virtual parking meters will be available in selected Northern Beaches carparks.

These meters are provided through our digital parking system delivered by EasyPark and allow customers to pay for parking digitally without downloading an app.

How it works

Hold your smartphone against the meter for approximately three seconds, then follow the prompts in the web portal to start and pay for your parking session.

Parking meters

Parking meters will be available in paid Northern Beaches carparks.

Customers who do not wish to use a parking app or virtual meter can continue to pay at a pay-by-plate meter using Mastercard or Visa. Tickets will no longer be required to be displayed on a vehicle dashboard.

How it works

Parking rates and instructions on how to purchase a pay for parking are located at the meter. Each parking meter accepts Visa or MasterCard and you can insert or tap and go.

Frequently asked questions

Why are there changes with parking payment options?

We’re improving the service to better suit the needs of customers. As the current parking meters have reached the end of their life, we are introducing more digital options. Similar parking approaches are increasingly being adopted by councils across Australia and internationally.

You will now be able to also use the EasyPark app, an alternative virtual parking machine. The Park'nPay app and pay-by-plate meters will remain available to use.

What if I have a Northern Beaches Parking Permit?

Eligible residents continue to receive free parking at designated beach and reserve carparks when holding a valid Northern Beaches Beach Parking Permit.

Do I have to display at ticket?

You are no longer required to display at ticket on your dash. Your registration acts as your ticket.

What apps can I use to pay for parking?

EasyPark and Parkn’Pay apps allow you to conveniently pay for parking from your phone. You can monitor your time and remotely extend a session (within the parking regulations), meaning you won't overpay for your parking or risk receiving an infringement.

You will not be charged any additional fees for using the apps.

What if I don’t want to download a parking app?

If you do not wish to download a parking app, instead you can use the new virtual parking meters, which allow parking to be paid digitally without an app (a smartphone is required). Alternatively, you can pay-by-plate at the machines.

Will there still be physical parking meters?

Yes. However the current meters have reached the end of their life so a mix of payment methods will be available across beach and reserve carparks. These will include pay-by-plate meters using credit cards, as well as digital options such as apps or virtual meters to better suit the diverse needs of the community.

What payment options are available?

You will be able to pay with Visa or Mastercard.
