Northern Beaches Council is excited to be celebrating all things Australia across the month of January.

Unfortunately our traditional breakfasts wont be taking place however residents are encouraged to spend Australia Day celebrating with their family and friends at one of our many outdoor public spaces whilst staying COVID Safe.

The key events are listed below and many of our services such as our Libraries, Art Gallery, Aboriginal Heritage Office and Coastal Environment Centre will also be running activities. Check out our event calendar

Please abide by special Australia Day Alcohol Free Zones on all beaches sand areas and attached reserves from 6am, Tuesday 26 to 6am, Wednesday 27 January.

Dee Why Outdoor Dining Expansion

To support our local businesses, The Strand At Dee Why will have a road closure in place from midday Monday through Australia Day. This will allow our community to celebrate safely with their family and friends with additional seating and entertainment.

Citizenship Ceremony

The official Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony will be held at Glen Street Theatre on Australia Day. Taking into consideration the current NSW Health Orders this ceremony will be invitation only.


On Australia Day, there will be a number of performers playing Aussie favourites and roving Australian themed characters across various town centres. 

Australia Day Awards

Taking into consideration the current NSW Health Orders this ceremony will be held on Thursday 21 January and will be invitation only. Find out more

Australia Day Ambassador

Northern Beaches Council is pleased to announce Hannah Campbell-Pegg as the Australia Day Ambassador for our 2021 Australia Day celebrations. 

Hannah Campbell-Pegg is a dual Winter Olympian who represented Australia in the Women’s Single Luge at Torino 2006 Winter Olympic Games and Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games. 

Hannah is Australia’s first Luge athletes to compete in two Winter Olympic Games.
