Supporting our native animals

A vegetation community is a collection of plant species within a designated area, that are relatively uniform in nature. Some communities are very diverse or may have only a couple of plant species present. The components of each community are influenced by soil type, topography, climate and human disturbance. These communities create specific conditions which attract and support native animals in search of food and habitat.

There are a number of plant communities present in the wetlands including some endangered ecological communities. As you walk around the wetlands you may notice distinct changes in the vegetation.

The value of natural spaces

Natural spaces play an important role in supporting human health and well-being. It is now well understood that being in nature, living near nature, or even viewing nature in paintings and videos can have a positive impact on our brains, bodies, feelings, thought processes, and social interactions.

Spending time in natural settings produce a cascade of positive emotions and calming effects on our nervous systems. This in turn helps us cultivate greater openness, creativity, connection, generosity, resilience and respect for nature.

We’re fortunate to have access to such a large selection of natural spaces and walks on the Northern Beaches, including the 36km coastal walk stretching from Manly to Palm Beach.
