Discover the sculptural potential of slab building in this hands-on workshop with local ceramicist and Environmental Art & Design Prize finalist, Camille Blyth.
Guided by her tactile, nature-inspired approach, you’ll explore a range of techniques to craft vessels and forms beyond the round.
You will learn:
• slab construction techniques
• how to use coloured clay slips to embellish your piece (instead of glaze)
• texture and burnishing
• how to apply a beeswax finish
You will have the opportunity to create a piece based on a template or create your unique design.
Please note this workshop does not include firing, however, we will provide information for you to take your pieces to be fired and finished.
Suitable for those with some experience working with clay or intermediate ceramicists ready to explore new techniques.
All materials are provided, including: clay, slips, and tools (although participants are welcome to bring their own existing clay tools).
Please bring:
- apron / wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty - some clay bodies will stain
- container / box 30 x 30cm to transport your work
- your own mug (tea / coffee provided)
