This popular event is a great way for residents to sell their pre-loved households goods, providing the community with an alternative to buying new.

The focus of this Car Boot Sale is for residents to sell unwanted household goods such as clothes, toys, household items, sporting equipment etc.

Goods may be sold from the boot of a vehicle, a table or racks within the allocated stallholder site.

Entertainers

What can I bring for my stall set up?

Stallholders must bring with them their own equipment. This can include: 

Car Boot stallholder section

Car, shade/rain structures such as a marquee/umbrella, folding tables, table coverings, clothes racks, blankets, rugs or containers, chairs and signage. Goods may be sold from the boot of a vehicle.  Balloons are not permitted. 

Each stallholder is allocated a 3m x 9m space.  There is approximately 6m x 3m space for your vehicle, leaving approximately 3m x 3m space for your stall.  

Bags to Riches stallholder section

A blanket, rug, suitcase, small table, low clothes rack or containers, chairs and signage, beach umbrella with base or beach cabana. Cars, marquees or balloons are not permitted. Stallholder spaces are 3 x 2m.

Is there any shade?

There is some shade under the trees on the edges of the reserve. For extra shade:

You can bring a marquee, beach umbrella with a base or a beach cabana. Umbrellas can’t be secured in the grass. All marquees must be secured with weights and may need to be taken down if not adequately secured or if windy conditions pose a safety risk.

What can I sell?

Second-hand items. (A small quantity of items that has never been used that is no more than 10% of your stall is acceptable.) 

Electrical items must be tested by an electrician and display a current Australian Standard tagging.

No food.

This is not a market for businesses and commercial traders.  The purpose of this market is to promote the sale of second‑hand goods and support waste reduction through reuse. If your products are new, seek other local markets where new items are permitted.

The sale of fur products is prohibited at this event as it is prohibited on Council land and at Council managed markets with the exemption of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people wishing to practise their culture in public and on community land.

How much space do I have for my stall?

Car Boot stallholder section

Each Car Boot stallholder is allocated a 3m (frontage) x 9m (length) stall space.  There is approximately 6m x 3m space for your vehicle, leaving approximately 3m x 3m space for your stall.  

Trailers and extra-long vehicles such as Campervans are not permitted.

Bags to Riches stallholder section

Stallholder spaces are 3 x 2m.

How are the stallholder spaces allocated?

Car Boot stallholder section

Stallholder allocations are given on the day on a first in basis to make it fair for all stallholders. Access to the event site is from the north-eastern end of the Bowling Green Lane car park. When you arrive, check in first with a council staff member who will direct you to your stallholder space.

Bags to Riches stallholder section

There is one area reserved for Bags to Riches stallholders located on the southern side of Dunbar Park alongside the Avalon RSL Club.  The rest of the park will be for the Avalon Car Boot stall holders.  

Council staff will be in the northeastern end of Bowling Green Lane, Avalon marking off marking off stallholders between 7am and 7.45am on the day of the event. When you arrive, check in first with a council staff member who will direct you to your stallholder space.

Can my stall be next to my friend or family member?

As the stallholder allocations are given on the day on a first in basis to make it fair for all stallholders, you will need to line up together during bump in to be side by side stallholders at the event. 

What time should I get there to set up?

Car Boot stallholder section

Arrive by 7am. 

Stallholders are only permitted to drive a vehicle onto Dunbar Park from the dedicated vehicle entrance/exit located at the north eastern end of Bowling Green Lane, Avalon between the hours of 7am and 7.45am on the day of the event. If you arrive after 7.45am you will need to walk all of your goods and equipment onto Dunbar Park to your allocated stall holder site.  Council may allow vehicles to enter earlier if traffic begins to block surrounding streets, with the situation assessed on the day of the event.

Be ready by 8am and trade until 2pm.

Arrive between 7.00 – 7.45am. Be ready by 8am and trade until 2pm.

Do shoppers tend to pay in cash or by card?

Cash is widely accepted at the Avalon Car Boot Sale, but there are many stallholders who are setting up ways for customer to pay electronically.  An easy way is to set up PayID, which links your bank account details to your mobile number.  Please ask your bank what options are available to you.

What happens if it’s raining or very windy?

Avalon Car Boot Sale is an outdoor event and will operate in varying weather conditions.  It is the responsibility of the stallholder to bring their own sandbags and weights to secure equipment on the day. Please bring a cover to protect items in case of rainy periods.

If there is a major weather event or electrical storm, Council may cancel the event. You will be notified via email by 6.30am on the day. You will be refunded your stall fee minus the 50c booking fee.

Do I get a refund if I cancel my booking?

There are no refunds if you cannot attend, nor can you transfer to another date. However, you may offer your stallholder spot to a family member or friend.
