The winner of the hotly contested Northern Composure 2019 Band Competition will be announced at the Northern Beaches PCYC in Dee Why, on Friday 12 April.

The annual competition for unsigned local youth bands, now celebrating its 18th year, attracted an eclectic range of talent at multiple venues across the peninsula.

Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said the competition continues to go from strength to strength with an awesome line-up in place for the finals.

“This is one of our most popular youth competitions, with 18 entries this year and more than 800 people attending the three heats held in March.

“It’s set to be a close competition with a number of bands vying for the top spot. It is wonderful to see the clear depth of local talent.

“We are proud to support our youth by providing Northern Composure as a platform for them to share their musical talent with a wider audience, and it may very well lead to bigger things,” Mayor Regan said.

The 2019 finalists for the Judges’ Choice are Heartlake, The Assets and Edgecliff, while Tarantino, Pocket Mammoth and Butterbox will compete to win Audience Choice honours.

Heartlake drummer Giacomo Benvenuto said taking home the top prize ‘could be a game changer.’

“We have been fortunate the past couple of years to win the Audience Choice (at Northern Composure), so to win the Judges’ Choice would be amazing.

“We are aiming to release a single this year, so hopefully it goes our way,’’ he said.

Entrants are in the running to win great prizes, including a music production, recording and marketing package worth over $7,000 as well as $1,000 cash.

Tickets for the final are $10 and can be purchased at the door. The community event, open to all ages, is drug and alcohol-free with security provided.
