Northern Beaches Council has established a grants program worth a total of $10,000 to support local schools to become more sustainable.

The Eco Schools Grants program offers $2000 per school to partly or fully fund initiatives in the fields of bush regeneration, carbon reduction, waste reduction, water reuse and reduction as well as sustainability education.

Mayor Michael Regan said the overall aim was to encourage local schools to implement more sustainable practices.

“Good habits begin early and we know kids really care about reducing waste and looking after their environment,” Mayor Regan said.

“This program will help local schools involve more students in sustainability programs and put into practice some of their great ideas of how to implement them in their own schools."

Grants close 17 February, 9AM. All applicants will be notified in writing of the outcome of their application. It is anticipated that the assessment process will take place in February 2020 and the recommended recipients will go to the March 2020 Council meeting for endorsement.
