Angie Goto, Vital Signs, 2025
Embodied - A Deaf Perspective is an art exhibition that seeks to deepen connections between hearing and Deaf communities. It will examine how our physical and emotional experiences are shaped by the people around us, and how representations of identity and dialogue come to life in tangible and gestural forms. Audiences will not simply view the art, but will be invited to live and feel it. This accessible and proud space will embody a Deaf cultural story through the perspectives of Deaf artists and Deaf creative expression.

Participating Artists
- Kai Gecso-Thorndycraft is an artist from the Northern Rivers area. Kai was born genetically deaf and neurodivergent, and was encouraged to use art as a form of self-expression. Kai’s art is an entanglement of emotions that words, literally, cannot express.
- Angie Goto is an Australian Deaf artist who loves to express herself through vivid paintings of images that live in her mind. She embraces the differences she sees in the human spirit and constantly strives to bring awareness to all about our similarities rather than our differences.
- Stefan Kater is a Swiss-born artist living in Sydney. Stefan was born deaf and had many communication barriers growing up, as his family did not use Auslan, which impacted Stefan's language acquisition. Through this, he developed a unique ability to communicate visually rather than verbally.
- Sue Jo Wright is a Deaf, multidisciplinary artist based on Dharug and Bidjigal Country. Her work integrates Auslan (Australian Sign Language), offering a captivating glimpse into the inner world of the Deaf community and sharing unique insights with broader audiences.
- Kirsty Collins is a Deaf contemporary artist, designer, and ceramicist whose practice explores the intersections of art, design, and craft-based inquiry. Profoundly deaf and an Auslan user, she is driven to create new works that engage Deaf, Deafblind, and blind communities, reimagining the gallery as a space of genuine inclusion rather than tokenistic access.
