Vegetation

Dee Why Wetland contains a remnant form of Sydney Freshwater Wetlands a threatened ecological community in the Sydney Basin.

This vegetation community is dominated by sedges and aquatic plants such as Baumea species, Eleocharis sphacelata, Gahnia species, Ludwigia peploides subsp. montevidensis and Persicaria species.

Fauna

The significance of this vegetation community is relative to its potential habitat for threatened fauna species including a few species of frogs.

Dee Why Wetland is an important stepping stone located within a local wildlife corridor allowing fauna movement between Dee Why Lagoon Wildlife Refuge and the Narrabeen Lagoon catchment.
