The Northern Beaches Library Local Studies Team was recently asked to produce Historical images and content to fill a total of 12 panels measuring 2.5m long and 1.5m high, to be placed in high pedestrian traffic areas as part of the PLAY MANLY Festival. Designed using images and research from our History Hub collection, they entertain and inform locals and tourists on the rich history of Manly.

Four Panels located on West Esplanade trace the initial contact of the Kay-ye-my people with members of the First fleet, and follows the development of West Esplanade as an entertainment precinct.

Eight Panels on the southern end of Manly Beach Promenade, trace the early development of Manly, from its initial conception as a tourist resort, to the establishment of Manly Wharf and the Corso, which turned Manly into the “Playground by the Sea”.
