Grows in mallee form to 4m tall though can grow to a straggly tree to 9m high. Bark is rough, fibrous and stringy, red or dark brown. Juvenile leaves round to heart shaped and roughly hairy.

It is known in only a couple of locations in the Northern Beaches including within the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.

This species is listed as Vulnerable in both New South Wales and nationally.
