The Bush Rat is a shy, nocturnal animal that lives in the undergrowth of shrubs and ferns in heath, forests and woodlands. 

It has conspicuous rounded ears and a short tail.

Bush Rats shelter in short burrows under logs and rocks and line their nests with grass.

They are omnivores and eats fungi, grasses, fruits, seeds and insects.

They are rarely seen in urban areas.
