The Northern Beaches will once again host some of the world’s best surfers as they compete in the World Surf League (WSL) 2024 Challenger Series.

WSL has announced that North Narrabeen, regarded as one of Sydney’s best surf breaks, will be one of the first battlegrounds of this year’s Challenger Series.

From 9 to 16 May, surfers from across the globe will compete at the GWM Sydney Surf Pro, vying to qualify for the elite Championship Tour in 2025.

In this year’s Challenger Series, 80 men and 48 women will compete for elite status. Championship Tour (CT) surfers who make the mid-season cut will not be required to compete at Challenger Series events, though they can apply for an event wildcard if they wish to compete. CT surfers who fall below the Mid-Season Cut and miss CT requalification will automatically qualify for all Challenger Series events.

After stopping in Australia the Challenger Series then moves to Ballito, KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa), Huntington Beach in California (USA), Ericeira (Portugal) and Saquarema (Brazil) from July to October 2024.

Northern Beaches Council is a long-standing partner of the World Surf League bringing major international events to the region.
