While getting a parking fine is frustrating, new state-wide legislation means NSW drivers will now be notified on the spot when a fine has been issued.

In a move away from ticketless parking fines, when an offence has occurred Council parking officers will attach a small, pre-printed penalty notice card to the offending vehicle windscreen for notification.

Council will then send the details to Revenue NSW who will review and issue the fine directly to the owner of the vehicle. Images of the offence will be provided to Revenue NSW and available to the driver on request.

Drivers may dispute fines directly with Revenue NSW.

In circumstances where it is unsafe for the parking officer to leave a notification card, Council will issue a fine within 7 days of the offence.

Of course, it’s always better to avoid the fine in the first place. If you need a brush-up on the do’s and don’ts of parking make sure you know the common parking rules.

And please remember to treat our parking officers with respect. They are out in the community doing their job, often in challenging conditions, helping to ensure our streets are accessible and fair for everyone.
