Have you got a broken toaster, a damaged clock or a pair of pants in need of a hem? Items that could be fixed but whose inner workings are beyond your skillset?

It’s a common scenario and one that you can overcome thanks to a free and easy new initiative that helps locals repair broken household items.

Council’s first Fixery event – a repair service staffed by volunteers with skills in electricals, sewing, soldering and woodwork – was held easlier this month.

From a dodgy grandfather clock to erratic heaters, holes in decades-old woolly jumpers, immobile electric car toys, blunt knives, sticky garden tools, precious heirloom items and more, community members brought their much-loved items to Cromer Community Centre for volunteers to work their magic and make them good again.

Not only was the inaugural event fully booked out but it also had an extensive wait list. Thanks to the strong community interest for a repair and reuse mindset, this innovative circular economy initiative will be repeated next month.  As well as furniture, clothing, electricals, toys and knife sharpening, there will be additional repairs for costume jewellery.

Bookings are essential and to improve your chances of a full repair, please bring any parts or elements needed with you. For clothing, pre-pinning items to your desired length will give you more repairs per time slot on the day.

You can book your slot at The Fixery here

And if you have a particular skillset and want to volunteer for repairs, please get in touch by completing the online expression of interest form.
