Northern Beaches Council Library is calling on all students to unleash their imagination and write an original story using the theme word ‘Doorway’ for this year’s Young Writers’ Competition.

The Young Writers’ Competition has been running for seven years and last year the competition attracted over 400 entries, with the very best entries being included in the eBook, Treehouse.

Students up to and including those in Year 12 are invited to enter the competition with the final date for entries on Wednesday 27 July.

‘For most writers, all it takes to unleash the imagination and allow a story to grow is an idea and a deadline,’ said Northern Beaches Council Administrator, Dick Persson.

‘This has proven to be true of the young writers with judges finding the standard of entries increasing each year.

Entries will be judged according to characterisation, originality, plot and use of language which will be arranged into six different age group categories.

Winners from each category will be presented with an award at a prestigious ceremony and have their stories published in an eBook to be included in the Library collection.

‘A number of the previous winning entries were written by students who had been encouraged by wonderful teachers and librarians in our local schools. I would be delighted to see even more students and schools involved in the competition this year,’ Mr Persson said.

Entry forms with all details are available at warringah.nsw.gov.au/library and in all Northern Beaches Council Library branches.
