Northern Beaches Council has started work on a $365,000 upgrade of Birdwood Park North Narrabeen, an important recreational space that has significant environmental and heritage value.

Northern Beaches Deputy General Manager Ben Taylor said the section of the park overlooks North Narrabeen Beach and is popular with locals and visitors, but after 30 years of heavy use in its current form it is rundown and needs upgrading.

“With its great location, Birdwood Park has become increasingly popular but the quality of the amenity does not match modern standards.

“This project will greatly improve accessibility, safety and the recreational use and I think when it’s finished it will be warmly welcomed by residents, and benefit visitors and the broader community.” Mr Taylor said.

The project will deliver:

  • new 26 space accessible concrete carpark
  • concrete seating platforms
  • a beach shower, water bubbler, park furniture including picnic tables and seats
  • custom shade structures and
  • new grassed areas

The upgrade will also provide substantial environmental benefits by controlling erosion and ensuring run-off from the carpark is filtered prior to entering the lagoon.

Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of June, weather permitting.
