Staged relaxation of COVID health restrictions has allowed some Council-run premier events to proceed in the coming months, allowing visitors back to the Beaches and residents to resume enjoying community activities.

One of Sydney’s top running events, the Sun Run 2021, will go-ahead for the eleventh year running in a modified format featuring a brand new 10km course. The 7km course and Aquathon (run-swim-run) will not proceed in 2021.

Mayor Michael Regan said he was delighted that some health constraints had been lifted so the Northern Beaches could now welcome back visitors and residents to sporting, foodie and cinema events for summer.

“It is fantastic that the Sun Run can go ahead, and exciting the Northern Beaches community can get back to a sense of normality this summer,” Cr Regan said.

The Sun Run, planned for Saturday 6th February 2021, usually attracts thousands of participants in a popular run along a scenic route from Dee Why Beach to Manly.

“Sun Run is a family-friendly event, open to all in our local community at all skill levels from athletes, non-athletes, families and corporate groups – everyone is welcome.

“There will be continued health safeguards in place, with social distancing guidelines and all health advice being adhered to throughout the running of the event.”

Registrations are now open at sunrun.com.au.

The World Food Markets and Open Air Cinema will also be proceeding, which will be welcome news to the entire Northern Beaches community.

Run over six summer evenings, the World Food Market is a food spectacular celebrating cuisines from across the globe.

Come make the most of the warm summer nights, bring your picnic rug to celebrate the end of the working week.
