Northern Beaches Council’s Sun Run event has officially sold out with the number of entrants surpassing previous event records.

With 7,000 participants registered for the event on Saturday 3 February, it will be the biggest turnout in the run's history.

Northern Beaches Mayor Sue Heins said the highly popular fun run was open to everyone, from experienced athletes to young families.

“Whether you’re an experienced runner striving for a personal best or a parent pushing a pram along the scenic coastal course, Sun Run 2024 will be an amazing event,” Mayor Heins said.

“It’s a great way to start the year, stay active, have fun with friends and enjoy our stunning coastline, all the while raising money for a charity or cause close to your heart.

“Thank you to everyone who has registered to make this year’s event the biggest yet. I wish you best of luck on the big day.”

Sun Run follows a scenic route that stretches from iconic Dee Why to Manly Beach, with entrants able to choose to participate in a 7km or 10km course. Over $36k has already been raised for charities, well on the way to our $100,000 target.

Participants range from experienced runners and athletes to well-known personalities, novice runners, pram pushers, costumed characters and even kids.

This year, charity marathon runner Nedd Brockmann will join the pack at the starting line. He is known for his incredible work raising $2.6 million for the charity We Are Mobilise by completing a gruelling run from Perth to Sydney in under 47 days. Running almost 100km a day for 46.5 days, he became the fastest ever Australian to achieve this feat at that time.

Brockmann said he can’t wait to participate in Sun Run 2024 and meet everyone participating on the day. He will also be at the finish line with samples of his Choccy Milk.

“The run is about getting off the couch, getting into the fresh air with like-minded people, having some fun and at the same time raising money for people who need it,” Brockmann said.

“Just give it a red-hot go. You’ve got nothing to lose!”
