Northern Beaches Council is spreading Christmas cheer and calling on all local businesses with street frontages to join in the fun and enter the 2016 Festive Season Window Display Competition.

Northern Beaches Council General Manager, Mark Ferguson said there are great prizes to be won for local businesses that show festive flair.

“The best Christmas themed window displays will share prizes collectively valued at more than $2000,” Mr Ferguson said.

“For a chance to win, shop owners as well as the community simply need to upload an image of the window displays onto Instagram with the hashtag #NBCFW16.

“The People’s Choice Award will be decided on the number of community uploads.  I encourage the community to locate participating businesses, visit stores, buy local and upload their images.

“People can post an image for every window display they like, and as many as they want, but only one entry per person is valid for each shop,” he said.

“Best Window and Commercial Street displays will be decided by a panel of judges and the winners from all three categories will be featured in a half page advertisement in the Manly Daily.

“This is a great opportunity for all businesses with street frontage to get into the festive spirit by decorating their windows and also where possible, banding together to win the prestigious Best Street Award,” Mr Ferguson said.

Northern Beaches Council is also getting into the festive spirit and has begun decorating commercial precincts like Balgowlah,  Fairlight, Manly, Mona Vale, Newport and Seaforth with things like lights, garlands and oversized baubles.

Mr Ferguson said Christmas wouldn’t be complete without the traditional big Christmas tree on The Corso.
“We’re lighting up the tree every evening with a dazzling display - the perfect backdrop for fun festive photos,” he said.

The Northern Beaches Council Festive Window display competition is now open. Businesses need to upload image of their window displays by Monday 5 December and People’s Choice voting closes on Monday 12 December, with winners announced Friday 16 December.

Entries are open to all Northern Beaches businesses with a street frontage. If you are a business and would like more information on how to participate please contact Deb Kempe (9942 2233) or Andreas Olsen (9970 1647) at Northern Beaches Council.
