A group of Northern Beaches' young people are working with Council to brighten Christmas for homeless youths with a call to donate presents for Christmas.

The Youth Shoebox project is aimed at helping young people aged 11-25 years who may be homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Kate Armstrong, 18, of Newport, said it was something the group felt they could do to help young people in the Christmas spirit of giving.

This age group often misses out over Christmas, according to Julie Acton, Youth Support Worker at Mission Australia.

"We do receive a lot of donations over Christmas, but usually they are for younger children, and our young people tend to miss out," Ms Acton said.

"Having a campaign targeting youth is a fantastic idea for this time of year."

To donate, anyone can fill a shoebox with presents for a young person aged 11-25, attach a Christmas tag stating age and gender, and drop it off at any Northern Beaches library until 11 December.

Some of the suggested gifts include clothing, personal items such as toothpaste and hair products, a movie voucher, sunglasses or a 2017 diary.

The presents will be distributed by three local youth homelessness services: The Burdekin Association, Mission Australia and Taldumande Youth Service.
