Council is hosting two unique market events brimming with second-hand treasures to help you have a thrifty festive season and low-waste Christmas.

Northern Beaches Council CEO Ray Brownlee said Christmas was the perfect time to shift our behaviours on consumption and gift-giving.

“So many of us are familiar with the waste left over on Boxing Day. This year let’s try and change that, by reconsidering what we buy, what we use and what we throw out,” Mr Brownlee said.

“One of the ways we can have a low waste Christmas is by purchasing pre-loved items as gifts for family and friends.”

Bags to Riches will be held at Walter Gors Park, Dee Why on Saturday 18 December, from 9am to 1pm, with clothes, toys, household items, sporting equipment, unique Christmas gifts and bargains sold from suitcases, clothes racks and picnic rugs.

At the Avalon Car Boot sale on Sunday 19 December, from 8am to 2pm, pre-loved clothes, toys, homewares and other interesting treasures will be sold from car boots, trailers and small tables.
