Northern Beaches Council is moving to the next stage of developing a plan to make services and facilities more inclusive and accessible for all of the community, including the disabled.

Council Administrator Dick Persson AM said the draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan would now go on public exhibition to allow community members an opportunity to comment.

“Once it is implemented, the proposed actions in the plan will significantly improve the lives of people with disability living on the Northern Beaches,” Mr Persson said.

Council has already been working to produce a draft plan that identifies 78 key actions.

“We are now taking that draft plan to the community for further feedback before developing the final plan,” he said.

The draft plan includes a $10.3 million investment in provisions for more equitable access to children’s playgrounds, sporting facilities and surf clubs.

“The draft Disability Action Plan builds on the work that Council is already doing and establishes priorities for making the Northern Beaches a more inclusive and accessible community.”

Community consultation ends on 24 May. Staff will be available to answer questions at a drop in information session at Warringah Mall Library on Thursday, 18 May from 5-7pm.

The final plan will be reported back to Council at the end of June.
