Northern Beaches Council is calling on local households, businesses and schools to take up the ‘Plastic Free July Challenge’.   Kids can join in with two free beach-side, school-holiday theatre workshops!

The ‘Plastic Free July Challenge’ is quite simple: just consume no single-use plastic during July.

Single-use plastic is anything that is intended to be used once - then thrown away. If all single-use plastic sounds a bit daunting, just try the ‘big four’ - plastic bags, plastic cups, plastic straws and plastic containers.

The Northern Beaches community is right to be concerned about the impacts of plastic litter, especially on our oceans and wildlife.

One way we can all help is to avoid disposable plastic items in the first place.

Taking part in Plastic Free July challenges us to re-think simple everyday decisions and say ‘No thanks’ to single-use plastic while shopping, eating and drinking, on our way to work or while out and about on the beaches.

Accept the challenge and say ‘No’ to one or more of the big four – it’s that simple.

‘Plastic Free July’ started as a local initiative in Perth, Western Australia and has grown into a global initiative.

The Northern Beaches - and coastal communities around the world - are promoting ‘Plastic Free July’ to highlight plastic consumption impacts on marine litter.

People can register for the challenge; and share their experiences, ideas and tips at www.plasticfreejuly.org.

Northern Beaches residents and kids can join in with local ‘Plastic Free July’ events and school-holiday workshop.
