Northern Beaches Council has resolved to prepare plans to protect and enhance Avalon and all that is special about its unique village character.

Council General Manager Planning, Place & Community David Kerr said preparation of a place plan for Avalon would start with consultation and engagement with stakeholders, including the community.

“The community has already made it clear that they want to see a number of issues in Avalon addressed while at the same time preserving its unique village character.

“In particular, the danger presented at the intersection of Avalon Parade and Old Barrenjoey Road.

“The plan would also attract the right uses to the right places and provide a focal point for employment while delivering high quality urban design.

“Northern Beaches Council is committed to creating places where the community wants to live, connect and work, as well as providing safer and more inclusive access for all our community, including pedestrians, and creating spaces where people will want to spend their time.

“The Avalon Place Plan will provide guidance and vision for the village into the future,” Mr Kerr said.

To help Council, an advisory group will be established by the end of the year to build on the previous work of the Walk Avalon consultation process and the Avalon Beach Cultural Mapping Project undertaken by the Avalon Preservation Association.

Council has already invested in the rebuilding of the Avalon Beach Surf Lifesaving Club, assisted the Avalon Beach Bowling and Recreation Club and allocated $1 million for a Creative Art Space either at Avalon or Newport.
