The battle to be named the Northern Beaches ‘best youth band’ is heating up with Council holding the first Northern Composure heat on Friday 17 March at Manly Youth Centre from 7-10.30pm.

Northern Beaches Council General Manager, Mark Ferguson said that the arts and music scene was an important part of the Northern Beaches youth culture.

“Northern Composure is the biggest and longest running youth band competition on the Northern Beaches and we are pleased to be continuing to support young bands and foster their love of music and entertainment,” Mr Ferguson said.

Northern Composure heat one competitors include return rivals Black Iguana and The Intruders along with well-known locals Dead to Rights, Blue Raspberry and Dysfunction.

This is the first year Northern Composure will be held at Manly Youth Centre with the heat one bands following in the footsteps of music greats such as Midnight Oil, You Am I, Silverchair, Frenzal Rhomb, Front End Loader, Evermore and Henry Rollins who have all played there.

“Being a larger Council we are now able to introduce new and exciting locations for bands to play at and audience members to enjoy,” Mr Ferguson said.

Northern Composure competitors are in the running to win a $4000 recording package, paid event at the Music Lounge in Brookvale, live recording of their set, marketing assistance and prize money. There are also lucky door prizes for audience members.

Northern Composure is an all ages, drug and alcohol free event with security provided.

Tickets are $10 at the door. For more information Youth and Families Team on 9942 2681.
