Two Northern Beaches runners have been selected to travel to Japan in February to compete in the 2017 Senshu International City Marathon.

As part of Northern Beaches Council's friendship with the Tadaoka Town Government in Osaka, two runners are chosen to run in the race on 19 February 2017.

The runners' travel and accommodation expenses are paid by Tadaoka.

Previous entrants have described the race as being fun and well organised, providing a unique sporting and cultural experience in Japan.

The successful runners for 2017 are Joshua Stacey and Christine Wilcox.

Joshua said he was super excited to have a chance to run a marathon in Japan.

"I'll be flying the flag for the Northern Beaches community. I'll be telling everyone what a beautiful, friendly place we live in, and invite them to come here for a sporting experience.

Christine said she can't wait to get over to Japan.

"It's a dream come true to be chosen to represent the Northern Beaches and I'll be running my hardest to put in a good performance. I'm super excited."
