A number of young visual artists have been recognised as part of the prestigious 2020 Express Yourself exhibition of HSC major works from students of 20 high schools across Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Two awards are granted annually to students featured in the exhibition: Manly Art Gallery & Museum Society presents a $3,000 award and the Theo Batten Youth Art Award of $5,000 is awarded to a student continuing studies in the visual arts field.

Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said this year the Theo Batten Youth Art Award, named in honour of former local artist Theo Batten who bequeathed funds for the award, was shared between two fantastic emerging artists.

“The calibre of work that comes from our local visual arts HSC students is incredible and I know the judges always have a tough time choosing the winners,” Mayor Regan said.

“The major Theo Batten Youth Art Award was shared between two young artists this year, both from Northern Beaches Christian School, Jasmin Pike and George Cox.

“The Manly Art Gallery & Museum Society Award was shared between three talented students, Kaya Vulevic, Annika Rose Curotta and Charlie Belic.

“We have a wealth of arts and creativity here on the Northern Beaches which we can see strongly in our young artists.

“Congratulations to all the winners, those who were highly commended and all the artists in this dynamic exhibition.

“If you want to see some incredible young talent, make sure you get down to the exhibition before it closes.”
