Northern Beaches Council has adopted the Events Strategy which will deliver an exciting and vibrant mix of Council and community events over the next five years.

Mayor Michael Regan said the strategy was the result of extensive community consultation and aims to ensure events sustain and promote the Northern Beaches as an iconic and extraordinary place.

“This strategy is a key step forward in ensuring events on the Northern Beaches lead to greater social, environmental and economic benefits for everyone,” Mayor Regan said.

“It includes a five-year action plan with a focus on high quality local events.

“We want to support the community to run more of their own events across the Northern Beaches to complement those run by Council. So we’ll be looking at ways we can build capacity, provide funding and help promote events within the community.

“We’ll be reviewing our policies, fees and charges to ensure we are encouraging great events and we’ll explore some alternate transport options across the Beaches so they are easy to get to and from.

“We also want to make sure our events leverage economic and tourism opportunities to support our local businesses.

“And we know our community are big supporters of sustainability so we’ll be really focusing on how we can promote environmental sustainability in event delivery and theming.”

Mayor Regan said consultation played an integral part in developing the revised Events Strategy.

“We engaged and listened to more than 1,100 people from across the Northern Beaches including community members, third party event organisers and local businesses,” Mayor Regan said.

“The aim was to reach as many people as possible and this was done in a number of ways, including an online survey as well as face-to-face consultation through a series of pop ups and activations at major events.

“There were also workshops with third party event organisers, businesses, community members and consultation with Council staff.”
