Northern Beaches Council has committed to implementing five key actions as part of the national Cities Power Partnership (CPP) and is inviting the community to join them in taking action against climate change.
Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said we want to demonstrate our commitment to real action on climate change.
"As a Council we have just made our five CPP pledges that will see new initiatives in renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable transport and working with our community,” Mayor Regan said.
Climate Councillor Greg Bourne said the free national CPP program exists to celebrate and accelerate the emission reduction and clean energy successes of Australian towns and cities.
"The pledges submitted by Northern Beaches Council as part of the Cities Power Partnership are a great example of how a council can take the lead on driving down pollution and tackling climate change in the local area,” Cr Bourne said.
Our first initiative in working with our community is the launch of the Charge Ahead program. This innovative program provides support to residents who want to make a difference in their own home. There are three free services on offer for residents including:
- Sunspot - A solar mapping tool run by the Australian Photovoltaic Institute which allows homeowners to calculate potential electricity savings by accurately estimating the amount of solar electricity that can be generated from rooftop solar panels and considers issues like solar intensity, shading and roof orientation.
- Our Energy Future - A sustainability advice service which offers practical guidance on reducing your energy use in your home including advice on solar, lighting, insulation and draft proofing.
- Council’s Energy Saving Challenge - A program that rewards residents for completing energy saving challenges around the home. Challenges range from easy and economical to more valuable and challenging.
“Charge Ahead offers our community practical and effective tools to help them have a positive impact on the environment while also saving money,” Mayor Regan said.
Ambassador and Architect Julian Brenchley who also appears on the TV Show The Block said the tools being presented by Council offered real value for residents aiming to make small or more significant changes.
“I’m really pleased Northern Beaches Council is focused on reducing their energy consumption and lowering their carbon footprint, but also encouraging the community to get on board,” Mr Brenchley said.

- Call Our Energy Future to learn how you can reduce your power bills without compromising on comfort
- Take part in Council’s Energy Saving Challenge to be in the running for prizes and see how even small changes can have a significant impact on energy consumption
