Nominations are now open for the annual Northern Beaches Australia Day awards to be announced in January 2019.

Residents are encouraged to nominate outstanding citizens who have contributed to the local community in one of six categories: Citizen of the Year (16yrs or older), Senior Citizen of the Year (65yrs or older), Young Citizen of the Year (16 to 25yrs old), Sportsperson of the Year and Community Event of the Year. Up to 15 locals will also be acknowledged with Outstanding Community Services awards.

Mayor Michael Regan said the awards were a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge local residents and volunteers who have made an exceptional contribution to community life on the Northern Beaches.

“No contribution is too small – we aim to acknowledge our local heroes who give so much of their time to make the Northern Beaches an even better place to live.”

Nominations for the Awards close 5pm Monday 19th November 2018.

Last year’s Citizen of the Year was Maria Chidzey of Balgowlah. She was awarded the honour for her lifelong dedication to serving others and promoting multiculturalism and diversity by advocating for migrants, refugees and other disadvantaged groups.
