Northern Beaches Council is moving ahead with the next stage of planning for improvements to parking around the Queens Parade carpark in Newport, with the West Newport Parking Demand Management Strategy going on public exhibition.

Council has already implemented interim changes to improve parking in the Queens Parade carpark and is now moving to the final stages after conducting engagement with the community and incorporating feedback.

Council Administrator Dick Persson AM said it is important that community views are heard.

“Over the past six months Northern Beaches Council has carried out a number of engagement activities to understand parking demands and challenges around Queens Parade in Newport. We heard from over 250 residents and local businesses through a survey and listening posts.

“It is important that Council continues consulting with the community to refine parking options and finalise the strategy for implementation later this year,” Mr Persson said.

Proposed parking measures include:

  • changes to the design of parking spaces
  • adjustment to parking time limits
  • improving awareness of parking options through better signage in Newport and cooperation with local business operators
  • encouraging the use of public transport, and bicycles through cycle parking
  • improved promotion of the local hotel’s courtesy bus

The strategy is on exhibition for public comment until Wednesday 29 March.

Drop-in sessions to learn more about parking options are being held at West Newport shops on Kalinya Street on Tuesday 7 March from 10-11am and Thursday 16 March from 10-11am.
