The redevelopment of Clontarf Reserve has moved along a major step with the completion of a new sandstone seawall and tiered seating at its iconic tidal pool.

The work is part of stage one of the Clontarf Reserve Landscape Masterplan, and this stage also includes an upgrade of the playground and a refresh of the existing toilet facilities.

Council made the decision to upgrade Clontarf Reserve to cater for the high use from visitors as well as meeting the local community’s expectations. It delivers open space recreation improvements, while conserving environmental, cultural heritage and scenic values.

Mayor Regan said the new seawall and bleachers are a great spot to sit and enjoy the fantastic views of Middle Harbour and the Spit Bridge.

“Council worked closely with the local community in developing the masterplan to support the reserve’s use. The reserve is very popular and the seawall and tiered seating are just some of the beautiful upgrades we know the community and visitors will enjoy.”

The iconic beach at Clontarf Reserve faces Middle Harbour and has been a popular recreation space and picnic spot since the 19th century. A key stopping point on the Manly to Spit Walk since 1988, the reserve has experienced increased popularity in recent years.

As part of the seawall work, stairs and an accessible ramp from the carpark to the tidal pool were installed, making access to the pool easier for all. There is also a new beach shower tower and foot wash area and the memorial seating will be reinstalled.

Council will commence work in July to restore the foreshore edge south of the pool to the boat ramp and work will begin on renewing the playground before the end of the year.
