An exhibition of prints that are part of a special collaborative artist project, exploring issues around the conservation of threatened species and habitat on the Northern Beaches will soon go on display at Manly Art Gallery & Museum (MAG&M).

Natural Collection is comprised of prints from the pages of the collaborative artists’ book of the same name, featuring the work of 29 artists from the Warringah Printmakers Studio.

The images each show an artist’s view of the endangered and vulnerable wildlife and habitats of the local area.

MAG&M’s senior curator Katherine Roberts said MAG&M was very pleased to be able to showcase the work of the Warringah Printmakers Studio artists and to support their ambitious creative projects.

“The Natural Collection project aims to promote a greater awareness of threats to our native species thereby generating discussion about the quality of our environment.

“The Studio initiated the project in response to their concern about the loss of bushland in the local area impacting on the habitats of our local species,” Ms Roberts said.

“This exhibition highlights the works of artists in this unique project, which may not otherwise be seen in the public arena, if it were not for this partnership with the Gallery,”

Dr Jennifer Anson from the Australian Wildlife Conservancy collaborated with the artists on the Natural Collection project by corroborating the scientific information about the species in each print which appears alongside the artworks.

Warringah Printmakers’ Studio artists print their own work, producing monoprints, unique prints and limited editions.

Exhibition dates: 19 October 2018 – 17 March 2019

Exhibition official opening: Saturday 20 October 2018, 5 - 7pm by Dr Viyanna Leo, Wildlife Ecologist, North Head Sanctuary, Australian Wildlife Conservancy
