Ongoing Manly CBD upgrades will visually lift the area as well as delivering an even more enjoyable experience for users of the popular Marine Parade coastal walkway.
Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said works would be carried out from early-March to June along the Marine Parade shared pathway to allow users to better access and enjoy the adjacent grassed areas, and on Belgrave Street where continued streetscape upgrades including paving will complete links to surrounding streets.
“Manly is one of our key tourist destinations and Marine Parade acts as a central attraction, promenade and access route to other local points of interest.
“These upgrades will mean travelling along Marine Parade is much more enjoyable for all pathway users, with easier access to seating and grassy spots from which locals and visitors can enjoy the view.
“Works along Belgrave Street will revitalise the area and also complete pedestrian links to the previously upgraded Whistler Street, Sydney Road and Manly Corso,” Mayor Regan said.
Covering approximately 840m of pathway starting from Manly Surf Life Saving Club and stretching to Shelly Beach, the Marine Parade works will:
- improve access to level grassed areas and seating
- remediate sandstone edging and walls
- improve subsoil drainage and run-off.
The Marine Parade project was financed in part by a Metropolitan Greenspace Program with Council matching the funding for the works, which complement the reinstallation of the Oceanides sculpture by Helen Leete and recent upgrades to the amenities block following storm damage.
During the construction period the Marine Parade walkway will be temporarily narrowed to maintain pedestrian safety and there may also be limited closures to allow for deliveries, machinery and trades vehicles. Traffic conditions will not change in Belgrave Street, however, there may be temporary impacts on parking as well as pedestrian and traffic flow.
