Glen Street Theatre is excited to present Letters to Lindy, a brand-new work from award-winning playwright, Alana Valentine (The Sugar House, Dead Man Brake, Head Full of Love, Parramatta Girls) from 29 August – 2 September as part of a national tour.

The story of Lindy Chamberlain captivated the nation. A mother accused of murdering her child, her claim – that the baby was taken by a dingo – denied and discredited by zealous police and a flawed legal system. The media circus, the rumours, the mob mentality, and a nation’s prejudices laid bare.

Based on actual letters received by Lindy Chamberlain from members of the public, Letters to Lindy is touching, authentic and provides a deep insight into one of the most compelling legal and human dramas of our time. It paints a singular portrait of the heartbreak, wisdom and resilience of a grieving mother and her 30-year fight for justice.

The touring production will feature the original cast of Jeanette Cronin (TV’s Crownies, Janet King and Rake) as Lindy Chamberlain, alongside Glenn Hazeldine, Phillip Hinton and Jane Phegan, and is skillfully directed by Darren Yap (Ladies Day, Miracle City).

Merrigong Theatre Company artistic director and CEO Simon Hinton said this is an iconic Australian story.

“Merrigong is particularly proud of the work we have produced in Letters to Lindy, a part of our continued focus on producing and presenting new Australian work.

“The story of Lindy Chamberlain is an iconic and important one for all Australians, so we are thrilled to be able to tour it to such a wide audience across the country.” Ms Hinton said.

“(Letters to Lindy is) probably the most powerful thing that’s been done on my story and the most true to what I lived.”
