Children are flocking back to their playground in Dunbar Park, Avalon, after it reopened this week following a three-month upgrade.

The new inclusive playground caters for both young and older children with two play towers offering a variety of climbing challenges. It also features a new inclusive swing with a high-backed seat, a nature-trail play area, climbing equipment, a slide and plenty of seating for parents and carers.

There are also interesting carvings throughout the playground, sure to keep the kids intrigued.

Mayor Michael Regan said the local community played a major part from the beginning through Council’s My Place – Avalon community consultation as well as providing valuable input into the playground's design.

“This creative play space is a much-loved playground, made even better now with plenty of natural materials such as timber, rope and sandstone, with lots more nature and challenges for kids of all different ages.

“In fact, parents will face the biggest challenge, trying to get their kids to come home.”

A new accessible pathway linking the Bowling Green Lane carpark to the playground has been established to make it easy for parents with prams or those in wheelchairs or with walkers.

While the work was being done, engineers and landscapers took the opportunity to fix the poor drainage around the site, meaning the playground will be able to be used more often.
