New change rooms, storage facilities and a new canteen are part of a major new sports amenities block constructed at Balgowlah Oval.

The project is the result of a partnership between Council, the AFL, the Balgowlah Suns and the NSW Government.

The timing couldn’t be better, with grassroots sport to return from July 1 following the latest level of COVID-19 restrictions being lifted by the NSW Government.

During the winter months, the ever expanding Balgowlah Suns Junior AFL club call the facility home, and with 400 registered players itching to once again lace their boots, excitement levels are at fever pitch.

Club officials are well prepared for whatever the season brings, with storage sheds already filled with training and game day equipment.

The new building includes two change rooms with toilet and shower facilities, additional storage space, an umpire’s room, a small canteen and separate public toilets including male, female and accessible.

Mayor Michael Regan paid tribute to hard working club officials from the Balgowlah Suns, who began lobbying Council and the NSW Government for funds last year ahead of the community project upgrade.

“Following extensive consultation and collaboration with the community and stakeholders, the building was designed and a new modular building was pre-fabricated off-site, craned in and quickly constructed.

“The result is a high-quality facility that will be enjoyed by a large number of residents for years to come. Thanks to the NSW Government and the Balgowlah Suns for their significant contribution to the project,’’ the Mayor said.
