Council is thrilled to have respected social psychologist and author, Hugh Mackay return as keynote speaker to the Big Ideas Forum to discuss his latest book “The Way We Are: Lessons from a lifetime of listening.”

Hugh was the Forum’s inaugural speaker in March 2019 discussing Why Neighbourhoods Matter. In the years since, the Forum has covered wide-ranging topics from mental health, gender and creativity to the impacts of Covid-19 with some impressive guest speakers including Susan Ryan, Jane Caro and Dr Norman Swan.

Northern Beaches Mayor Sue Heins said the Forum brings the local community together to contribute to the discourse, broaden knowledge and participate in local democracy.

“It is wonderful to have such an erudite speaker such as Hugh Mackay return to our Big Idea Forum.

“Being able to explore the major trends and events affecting and influencing the Australian way of life at a local level can be immensely valuable and lead to a groundswell of change and support.

“I encourage everyone, young or old, to attend and contribute ensuring diverse opinions are heard,” Mayor Heins said.

The event will take place on Wednesday, 1 May at 7pm at Glen Street Theatre.
