Council is encouraging the community to roll up their sleeves and volunteer for Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday 6 March.

Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan encouraged the community to build on last year’s inspiring efforts.

“Last year, community volunteers, Council staff, primary and secondary schools, pre-schools and businesses banded together to clean-up 92 sites across the Northern Beaches,” Mayor Regan said.

“It was a stellar effort, and we hope that this year can be even bigger and better. Our pristine beaches, waterways, parks and open spaces are deserving of our protection.

“Together we can undo the damage caused by littering and keep rubbish out of our waterways and ocean.”

Registrations are now open to register a site or volunteer at a registered Northern Beaches site near you. Council will pick up materials collected from Clean Ups held during the week of 28 February and 6 March.

Businesses are encouraged to join the Business Clean Up Day on Tuesday 1 March and school kids can get involved in the School and Youth Clean Up Day on Friday 4 March.

Since Clean Up Australia was created in 1990, more than 19 million volunteers have spent more than 38.5 million hours to help clean up Australia.
