Northern Beaches Council has refreshed the Community Engagement Policy and Strategy to support effective decision making and is inviting the community to have their say.

The updated Community Engagement Policy and Strategy documents explain how Council will provide opportunities for residents to share their views and see transparent, effective decisions that reflect the community’s input.

The proposed amendments to the documents highlight Council’s commitment to equity, access, and meaningful participation through using plain language, encouraging everyone to be involved and by making it clear how community feedback is used to inform final decisions.

Mayor Sue Heins said the review is about ensuring the Council’s approach remains in step with the community’s needs and expectations, “Our aim is to ensure our engagement processes is transparent, inclusive and easy for everyone to provide meaningful feedback.

“Our community has told us how important it is to feel heard, and we want to make sure these core documents continue to reflect those values. I encourage everyone to read the documents and have their say,” Mayor Heins added.

The Community Engagement Strategy has been in place since 2022 and is a legislative requirement under the Local Government Act 1993 that needs to be reviewed regularly.

The Community Engagement Policy and Strategy is on exhibition from Friday 8 August until Sunday 7 September. For more information, visit the Northern Beaches Your Say page (https://yoursay.northernbeaches.nsw.gov.au/community-engagement-policy-and-strategy-2024).
