Northern Beaches Council is inviting the public to share their stories and experiences about three heritage locations in the region.

The project is part of a series of Council events Our Stories: Yesterday | Today | Tomorrow, designed to celebrate the fascinating history of Manly Cove, Long Reef and Irrawong Reserve.

The first of the series will be held along West Esplanade, Manly Cove, from Manly Wharf to Manly Art Gallery & Museum as part of Manly Arts Festival on Sunday 23 September from 10am to 3pm.

The Esplanade will be brought to life through vibrant and colourful art installation work by Sydney-based artist Francesca Mataraga that mimics the playfulness of the former Manly Fun Pier.

There will also be live music and a pop-up story-telling booth along with freshly baked scones by the Manly Country Women’s Association and free lawn games.

Mayor Michael Regan said it is important to take time to appreciate what the region has beyond stunning geography and climate.

“The Northern Beaches is renowned for its beautiful coastline and diverse landscape, but how much do we really know about the heritage that lies on our doorstep?”

“I’m sure there are many untold stories that we want to capture about these locations, and to keep them as a permanent record so that they can be shared with generations to come.

“So if you have a special story, for example, about riding the merry-go-round at Manly Fun Pier, learning to swim in Manly Harbour Pool, or visiting Manly Sea Life Sanctuary, then why not come along to our Manly Cove event and share your story,” Mayor Regan said.

The other two ‘Our Stories’ events will be held at Irrawong Reserve on Sunday 28 October from 11am to 2 pm and at Fisherman’s Beach on Saturday 24 November from 12pm to 4 pm.

“Experience the heritage and uniqueness of each location at these three events,” Mayor Regan said.
