Heartlake took home the coveted Judge’s Choice award of the Northern Composure 2019 Band Competition at the Northern Beaches PCYC in Dee Why last Friday night.

The annual competition for unsigned local youth bands, now celebrating its 18th year, attracted an eclectic range of talent at multiple venues across the peninsula.

With more than 800 people in attendance, Alternate rock band Heartlake edged out The Assets and Edgecliff for the top prize, while Tarantino were the Audience Choice victors.

Heartlake drummer Giacomo Benvenuto said it was a ‘momentous occasion’ for the band, who also won the Audience Choice gong in 2017 and 2018.

“We are aiming to release a single this year, so this (win) will definitely help,’’ he said.

“It was a great crowd and we all agreed it was very humbling to end the Judge’s Choice…the other bands were very talented.

“To see people enjoying our music and to be formally recognised by other people in the (music) industry was great.”

Heartlake secured a music production, recording and marketing package worth over $7000, $1000 cash as well as a $1000 gift voucher from Mall Music after getting the nod from the judges.
