Around 500 tiny Manly Ferries will form the 'Great Wall of Manly' outdoor exhibition in the forecourt of the Manly Art Gallery & Museum during November.

A public art collaboration between Manly Art Gallery & Museum; Carol Havener from the Northern Beaches' 'Little Christmas Ferry Company'; and environmental-artist Leesa Knights, will feature five panels of artworks comprised of the tiny ferries.

Artist Leesa Knights, who was the 2015 Warringah Council and Kimbriki Artist in Residence and a graduate of the UK's Winchester School of Art, hoped the artwork would be a treat for art lovers of all ages.

“Inspired by the repetition and motion of movement across the water, the ferries create a harmonious visual representation of daily activity,” said Leesa.

"They acknowledge and respect the beauty, the hustle and the bustle of our waterways, the iconic existence of the Manly Ferry and its relationship to how we live, work and play on the Northern Beaches of Australia.”

The ferries were donated by the Little Christmas Ferry Company to celebrate the full-sized Manly Ferry as a “collective memory” of the area.

"Whether it's an ornament or artwork, the Manly Ferry evokes a sense of nostalgia that brings a smile to many faces and celebrates one of Manly's greatest treasures," said Carol.
